10 Reasons To Attend DIG SOUTH

We’re less than a month away from the 3rd annual DIG SOUTH – the Southeast’s first and foremost interactive festival – where entrepreneurs, investors, techies and creatives unite April 28 through May 2 at Cinebarre in Mount Pleasant and venues across Charleston to celebrate innovation and digital economy.

Whether you’re a DIG veteran or a festival newbie, here are 10 reasons to attend DIG SOUTH 2015:

1. OMG it’s @GaryVee

The festival starts with a jab-jab-jab—right hook! as acclaimed speaker and bestselling author Gary Vaynerchuck kicks off the keynote. The entrepreneur began his rise to fame with a wine-based web series, then grew his creative agency, VaynerMedia, from a six-person team to 400 employees in five years—not to mention VaynerRSE, his $25 million seed fund to launch the next generation of tech companies.

2. Learn, then Succeed

The DIG SOUTH sessions have something for every level of entrepreneur, techie, or creative. Whether you’re fine-tuning your idea, learning about funding, discussing brand storytelling, or researching mobile marketing, wrapping your brain around today’s innovative ideas is easy thanks to the more than 200 industry leaders, all of which will help you reach the next level.

3. Catch a Wild Pitch

Part of DIG Demo Day includes two Wild Pitches, one for accelerators and the other for students and early-stage startups. The top three winners in each session receive $25,000 in cash and prizes—and live audiences will get to watch. Not in this year’s winners’ circle? Demo Day also includes a Reverse Wild Pitch session, featuring leaders from top companies who can explain how you can pitch your big ideas to them for potential collaborations.

4. Network, Network, Network

Networking opportunities abound at DIG South as a whole, but especially at Demo Day, an intensive 24-hour block of conference programming to connect companies with talent and capital. The separately ticketed Investor Bash gives access to investors who represent $3B in capital, and after pitch events, startups have another opportunity to give mini-pitches in the Startup Harbor exhibit space.

5. Creative Clout

Get your creative juices flowing with the new DIG Create series where you can meet pros from TV, film, design, animation and gaming studios, music, interactive arts, wearable tech, and more. Catch sessions from the experts like Behind the Camera Pros, Reinventing the Music Industry, Women in Creative Industries, The Art of Indies Filmmaking, Visual Communications, and Animation & Imagination.

6. Tuned In

With great acts coming to town like Langhorne Slim & The Law, Holy Ghost Tent Revival, David Wax Museum  and more, you’ll be able to get down to great tunes all day and every night. From happy hours to late-night events, DIG attendees have access to loads of live music.

With all this partying going on you’ll forget you’re here on “business.” Which brings us to number 7.

7. DIG a Gig

Got talent? Meet your next employer. DIG A Job connects tech and creative industry recruiters to talent. The DIG A Job Marketplace features companies interested in recruiting sharp developers, designers, sales professionals, marketers and other technology, tech-related and creative positions. From recent graduates to senior executives, this FREE event will be a hive of hiring activity.

8. Booze, Food and Views

Eat your way through some of Chucktown’s best food while celebrating DIG South. Keep your eyes peeled for craft beers by Tradesman Brewing Co., specialty cocktails by Cathead Vodka and Bittermilk, as well as bites from Fiery Ron’s Home Team BBQ, and Coastal Crust. And don’t forget that every evening’s venue is a stunning spring hangout—Charleston Museum’s courtyard, Mount Pleasant’s Memorial Waterfront Park, Lookout Pavilion at Charleston Harbor Resort and Harborside East.

9. Lowcountry Locale

The City of Charleston provides an awesome backdrop for DIG SOUTH with its rich history and culinary excellence. This year’s festival extends east across the Ravenel Bridge for you to discover the historic and charming town of Mount Pleasant. Take a stroll on the Mount Pleasant Pier and the Pitt Street Bridge where you’ll catch beautiful views, then head up the Ravenel Bridge for more stunning picturesque views of downtown Charleston and the harbor. Still hungry? Check out Shem Creek, known for its shrimp boats and the best seafood in town.

10. #SucceedInTheSouth

Charleston has grown into an innovation hub for established and emerging tech industries – and DIG SOUTH has become the event that celebrates it all. If you’re at all unconvinced about the role Charleston plays, just ask Amazon, Google, Benefitfocus, Blackbaud, SPARC, PeopleMatter, Blue Acorn, BoomTown, Levelwing, JetBlue, Boeing and many others. And, like Charleston, Atlanta, Raleigh-Durham, Nashville, Savannah, Greenville, Jacksonville, Richmond, Chattanooga, D.C. and other Southeastern neighbors are emerging as strong tech sector players.

Be a part of the movement and show how we #SucceedInTheSouth.
